Get to Know Me

A younger couple, with their small child, crouching in a field with the Squamish Chief behind them.

Hi, I’m Jordi (she/her). I am a Registered Nurse, passionate educator and have been curious about birth and babies for as long as I can remember. At the tender age of 5, I remember taking a deep breath and pretending to push, while watching TLC's "A Baby Story", with my mom.

I graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2013. Since then, I have supported families at home, in small hospitals, big hospitals, clinics in rural Uganda - my experience with childbirth is vast. I started work at the Squamish General Hospital in 2017. The community and the place has stolen my heart and I am so grateful to have found such a beautiful place to work.

I am passionate about the power of education. I was a clinical instructor for the Nursing program at the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College and am a Neonatal Resuscitation Provider instructor - teaching other health care providers how to provide emergency care to neonates at birth.

The birth of my own child in 2021 was profound. I felt strong, supported and confident. I was able to advocate for myself and my baby. I trusted my body and followed my intuition. I hope to empower you to feel this way as well.

Offerings

  • Taking place over 6 hours, we will schedule two, three hour sessions. Private prenatal sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. I prioritize private sessions for those with complications or unique challenges in pregnancy.

    Throughout the first session, we focus on labour and the birthing process:

    • stages of labour & hormones

    • pain management & coping during labour
    (both non-pharmacological and pharmacological)

    • the power of the mind during labour

    • partner support

    • navigating the healthcare environment (decision making & advocacy)

    • understanding vaginal births, assisted births and cesarean births

    • Birth preferences and plans

    • What to expect for your birth depending on location (home & hospital birth)

    Session two focuses on "after the birth" and how to care for the birthing person, your baby and partner during the first six weeks postpartum:

    • Understanding physical healing and your journey through the 4th trimester

    • Infant feeding (breastfeeding, pumping and bottle feeding)

    • Sleep (managing expectations, understanding sleep and how to sleep safely)

    • Making a postpartum plan & navigating support from family and friends

    • How to care for your infant (swaddles, diapers, holding, etc)

    I will provide you with a list of resources and additional videos/education to dig into on your own time, as well as follow up via text or email if you desire!

    Timing and dates are flexible to each couple and we will collaborate to find times that work for you (evenings, weekends, daytime). I suggest receiving your prenatal education during your third trimester, but please book at your earliest convenience.

    Weekend dates are limited and tend to book up quickly.

    $400 per couple

    Travel fee for couples living in Whistler and Pemberton.

    Please note:

    I currently have very limited availability for private sessions for the remainder of 2024 as I prepare for the arrival of my second baby this summer. I will resume booking private sessions in 2025.

My hope is that our time together will:

  • carve out precious time for you and your partner to talk, ponder, question & discuss all things birth & the fourth trimester;

  • provide you with foundational knowledge from an experienced nurse; you can decide if you want to explore more (I will provide a list of resources to explore);

  • create a safe space to ask questions so that you truly understand labour, birth and the immediate postpartum period;

  • give you an understanding of how the Squamish General Hospital maternity unit flows (what to expect when having your baby at SGH);

  • and get you EXCITED about this incredible adventure.

Testimonials

  • “We took Jordi’s two classes in our home at 29 and 30 weeks pregnant. Jordi was accommodating, respectful, compassionate, and flexible in her lessons, and we could tell she worked tirelessly to help us feel supported. Having her come to our home was above and beyond helpful, and we would recommend her and her vast knowledge without hesitation to anyone seeking quality prenatal education”

    - C.H & M.H

  • "We highly recommend doing a prenatal class with Jordi. She has a very calming presence and can answer ALL the questions you might have in regards to giving birth and caring for a newborn baby. She came to our house and walked us through all the things we needed to know. It felt more like chatting with a "baby-knowledgeable" friend than an actual class, especially given all the laughter we shared during the two days. It also really helps that she works at the Squamish hospital, so she can provide you with more inside knowledge and details as to what the day(s) will look like. We even had the pleasure to have her be our nurse for one day during delivery. Couldn't recommend her enough!"

  • “We so enjoyed Jordi’s pre-natal course. We really appreciated how evidence-based and non-judgemental/inclusive it was. Jordi’s experience as a practicing labour and delivery nurse meant that her guidance was so practical and current. We valued the focus on both labour and delivery AND bringing baby home. We felt reasonably knowledgeable going into the course, and came out really impressed with how much we learned and took away from the sessions! Highly recommend.”

    - K & A

  • My husband and I decided to book Jordi’s private birthing class to get some insight into our first pregnancy, and I can’t speak her praise enough. With all the noise out there online and unsolicited advice for soon-to-be parents, it was absolutely amazing to get calm, collected insight of what to expect with labour/birth, partner support, what options or paths can pop up, and a second class to go over some basics of bringing home a new baby/feeding/sleeping and mental health. She really helped us get into a place where we feel confident moving into the last month of this pregnancy and preparing for the final leg with evidence-based backing from her occupation (literally from someone who sees this stuff at work all week). So kind, funny, and a joy to learn from!

I’d love to join you on this adventure ahead.
